This week we had a discussion in class about the rich and the poor. We discovered how there is such a huge gap between the rich and the poor. Based on most kids from my high school, we are considered in the top 5% of the United State's income. That is a crazy fact to think about because most people would define themselves as middle class, however, since there are so many people with no money out there, we manage to rank in the top 5%. For example where I live I always thought as us to be in the middle class and that we were all fortunate, but in reality we are much more fortunate compared to the world then we thought.
Also, in class our teacher discussed how this may be a shocking fact that we are in the top 5% of the U.S. income because everyone is always so busy at looking up. So many people spend time on looking at the people who have more money then they do as oppose to just be satisfied with what they have. For example the Kardashian family is idolized for how much money they have and all the celebrities and professional athletes are the roll models of every child, not because of their looks or skills but mainly because one day many kids want to be as rich as them. It was very interesting to understand the income levels and to see where we truly stand when it comes to income. As fortunate as we are, we also need to learn to give back. Since there is such a gap between the poor and wealthy it is important to help others.
I agree with you. Compared with other people, we have a lot and we need to be thankful. Also, we need to lear how to give back.
ReplyDeleteI agree; money is idolized in American society; we judge people based on what they have and the quality of what they have.
